This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are having some trouble with one of Coronation Street’s biggest current storylines.
For those a bit behind in their Corrie viewing, Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson) has made a shocking return to the cobbles to tell Liz (Beverley Callard) that Katie, the daughter that they thought they lost in 1992, is actually alive and well — and is now known as Hannah Gilmore (Hannah Ellis Ryan).
Viewers will be in for even more twists and turns as it becomes clear that Jim and Hannah are actually working together on some kind of plot involving Liz, but their motives aren’t yet entirely clear.
It’s an admittedly ambitious take on the traditional baby mix-up, but was branded “unbelievable” by Holly Willoughby during a segment with soap expert Sharon Marshall on This Morning.
“This seems slightly unbelievable somehow,” Holly complained. “I know it happens, but I don’t know. Is it right?”
Phillip Schofield concurred: “Don’t you think the hospital would have noticed there was a baby left over?”
While Sharon Marshall acknowledged there may be certain logic leaps as well as similarities to the infamous Michelle Connor baby swap storyline from years ago, she also hinted that there may be more than meets the eye with Hannah’s origins.
“All I will say is trust in the award-winning Coronation Street,” she told Holly and Phil. “Maybe watch this week, maybe watch Wednesday.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
